Cabinet Doors
Country style cabinets traditionally have a lot of detail. Keep some of this detail in your cabinetry by installing cabinet doors that have a face frame. Although a traditional country kitchen will have timber cabinets and doors, you could think about using lighter colours to add the modern touch. White, off white and light grey are all popular colours that look great. These lighter colours will also show off the detail in the cabinet doors.

Benchtops
In country kitchens you usually see a dark granite benchtop used to contrast with the honey colour of the timber cabinets. This contrast can still be achieved in your modern country kitchen. Consider darker greys, charcoal and blacks as the colour for your benchtop. You should also consider using stone bench tops to reinforce the modern look. An easy colour to work with is grey, if you have white cabinets using a grey stone bench top will look really elegant. You can also mix it up and use a darker colour for the cabinets with a lighter bench top.

Appliances
Don’t be afraid of using stainless steel appliances in your modern country kitchen. You can get beautiful freestanding ovens or stoves in the country fashion, but with all the modern bells and whistles you need. You can also select appliances in a dark black or charcoal colour to continue with the contrast in the kitchen.

Sinks & Taps
Porcelain sinks are usually used in a country kitchen, with ornate taps. To create the modern country kitchen feel, select either the sink or the tap in traditional style, and use the modern option for the other. Using a stainless steel sink with a brushed silver or dark copper ornate tap will match nicely with dark appliances, and contrast beautifully with the modern sink.

Lighting
Lighting is an important part in any kitchen, and can change the style instantly. In many kitchens, the lighting becomes one of the main focus points. To continue with the modern country theme, try using lights which are an older style, made from modern materials. For example an industrial pendant light in brushed steel, glass bell-jar pendants, and chunky chains attaching them to the ceiling.
